Rights defenders internationalize human rights issues of Nepal

L&G, Kathmandu, April 18

Leader of civil society and human rights defenders have urged the Nepalese development partners to make human rights a condition on any of their support to the government. The organizer took the initiative targeting the Nepal Development Forum to be held around mid May.

The activists, who have come together under an ad-hoc Accountability Watch Committee, interacted with the representatives of major donors on Thursday and urged them not to be misguided by the false assessment of the government that human rights situation has been improved. The interaction was participated by over a dozen representatives from bilateral and multilateral donor agencies including US Embassy, European Union, who agreed that development and human rights should not be dealt separately.
