Supreme Court acquits secretary of Home Ministry, Inspector General of Police

Look and Gaze

KATHMANDU, APRIL 30: The Supreme Court has acquitted secretary of Home Ministry, Inspector General of Police and others in a hearing on a contempt of court which the they committed by lying the court. The court took the decision after the defendants supplied sufficient clarification as how the "technical" error occurred.

The Supreme Court had initiated a case on its own against the officials after it was found by an investigation that the police administration kept two arrested people hidden despite habeas corpus writ.

While replying the Supreme Court habeas corpus writ against illegal detention of Nandu Giri and Devi Bikram, residents of Pyuthan District, the officials had lied the court that no such arrests had been done.

Later the apex court had found the duo under detention in District Police Office, Pyuthan through its "search warrant". The police had arrested Giri from B and B hospital and Bikram from Snnepa Height.
