Nepal's former crown prince Paras 'fires' at Sujata's daughter, Sauraha Tiger safari at trouble

THE KATHAMNDU POST, DEC 13

Former Crown Prince Paras Shah reportedly attacked Deputy Prime Minister (DPM) Sujata Koirala’s daughter and her son-in-law at the Sauraha-based Tiger Tops Resort in Chitwan on Saturday night.

It is learnt that Shah opened fire at the couple—Rubel Chaudhary and Melanie—saying that the Koirala family had conspired to abolish monarchy in the country. However, no one was injured in the alleged shooting.

Following the incident, employees at the resort escorted the Chaudhary couple outside the resort. They were shifted to a Gaidakot-based hotel on Sunday morning. Shah was reportedly furious at seeing the couple in the same resort where he and his friends were staying.

The resort management dismissed the shooting report, but did confirm that there was a verbal altercation between the former royal and the Chaudhary couple that night.

Chitwan’s Chief District Officer, Basantaraj Gautam, also denied the report about the former royal shooting at the Chaudhary couple. He said the two sides had an argument over ‘personal matters.’

Spokespersons for Nepal Police Bigyan Raj Sharma and the Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA) Jaya Mukunda Khanal said they had no official information about the incident.

DPM and Minister for Foreign Affairs Koirala is currently in East Asia and she reportedly telephoned Home Minister Bhim Rawal to look into the matter and take legal action against Shah if need be. The Chaudharys and Rawal were not available for comment. (Source: http://www.ekantipur.com/2010/12/13/editors-pick/paras-fires-at-sujatas-daughter/326438/)
