Development Awards in
Australian Development Scholarships are aligned with
AusAID offers Development Awards on the basis of merit, transparency and equal access. We strongly encourage applications from women, people with disability, and people from traditionally marginalised groups.

Australian Development Scholarships
These are long term development awards providing Nepalis (including public servants) with the opportunity to obtain tertiary qualifications at an Australian tertiary institution.
Australian Leadership Award Scholarships
Up to 200 of the most outstanding Australian Development Scholarship applicants across the globe will be offered an Australian Leadership Award in addition to their scholarship.
These extra entitlements will include a Leadership for Development Program designed to enhance leadership knowledge and skills. Recipients will be brought together with other Australian Leadership Awardees for leadership training, development discussions and the chance to build valuable networks.
Selections will be based on the applicant’s professional and personal qualities, academic competence and, most importantly, their potential impact on development challenges in their country or region.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must meet all of the eligibility requirements detailed in the Scholarships Handbook, available at:

Applicants must also meet the following specific eligibility requirements for

2. should have a minimum academic IELTS overall score of 6.5 or above (with no individual band less than 6.0) or an equivalent TOEFL paper-based/internet based test score. However, all women applicants, people with disability and applicants from traditionally marginalised groups should have a minimum academic IELTS overall score of 6.5 or above (with no individual band less than 5.0) or an equivalent TOEFL paper-based/ internet based test score. IELTS or TOEFL test must have validity until
3. have a tertiary level qualification at least equivalent to an Australian Bachelor degree (i.e. four years bachelor degree or three years bachelor degree and a master degree);
4. have at least five years’ work experience relevant to a nominated field of study, except for women, people with disability and traditionally marginalized groups who only require at least three years experience;
Special Conditions
In addition, applicants must be minimum of 18 years of age at the time of commencing the scholarship. Applicants from the public sector for Australian Development Scholarships will require nomination by the Ministry of Finance.
Applicants wishing to undertake a Masters by Research or a PhD must undertake the initial investigation to locate an appropriate supervisor. Australian higher education institutions’ websites identify their area of research strength.

Hardcopy applications
All applicants are encouraged to apply through Online Australian Scholarship Information System (OASIS). However, those who do not have access to internet may collect application forms from South Asia Scholarships Program (SASP) office.

Documents required with your application
The following documents must be uploaded with your application. A number of them must also be certified by an authorized person in
· Birth certificate/ Passport /National ID/Driving license
· Tertiary degree certificates (four years bachelor or three years bachelor plus a masters degree)
· Academic grades
· IELTS or TOEFL certificates
· Certificate of special achievements or merit
· Three referee reports (two academic and one professional)
· Evidence of communication with proposed Institute for Phd and Masters by Research
· Research proposal for Master by Research or PhD
· Nomination letter from the Ministry of Finance for public servants (who want to apply from the public sector for the Australian Development Scholarships)
· Employment Letter (if employed)
· Police clearance certificate (after selection)
The Selection Process
The selection process will include a technical assessment by education experts, a written task and an interview with Australian Government personnel. The assessment will take into account academic performance, relevant experience, AusAID development priorities, gender and social inclusion.
